The Oregon State Police said 22-year-old Tyler Bostic was shot Monday night in the city of Corvallis.
The officer was wearing a body camera video, but he was not immediately identified.
Police said Bostic and two other people were inside a car near the intersection of Northwest Highway and the Willamette River, when they heard gunfire.
Witnesses told police that they saw Bostic point the crossbow at police and then get shot at.
A deputy then pulled Bostic over.
The deputy then shot Bostic.
Bostic was taken to the hospital and later died.
Bust said Bostics family had requested that the video be released.
He declined to elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
A statement released Monday evening said the shooting happened during an officer-involved shooting, but did not specify what the officer fired at.
A police report said the officer who shot Bostics was not injured.
The incident was being investigated as a homicide.
